1: BeginningMissing a Heart Piece or Treasure Map? Fret no more! :D
Outset Island The story begins in the watchtower and your little sister, Aryll, comes to wake you up and to tell you it’s your birthday. Your first task is to go to your house, so head down the ladder and cross to land. Head right on the shore, follow the path over the stones to the western half of the island. You should be on a path, take a soft right at the fork and up to the house. It’s practically on the beach by the pier. Once inside hit your L Target button to fix your angle. You’ll do this a lot in the game. Go up the ladder and to the little old lady there. This is your grandmother and she has a birthday outfit for you (links green clothing). |
Head back out to Aryll at the watchtower. She will present you with her birthday present which is her favorite telescope. Now is your first try with the telescope. Equip the telescope by pressing start and select the telescope icon and press an arming button, like Y. Step up to the railing and look around with your new telescope. To trigger the cut scene close in on the mailbox (close to your house) and you’ll see a Rito (birdman). Zoom in using the yellow joystick, he is startled by something he sees in the sky. Tilt your telescope back with the grey joystick.
In the sky you’ll see a giant bird with a girl in it’s talons and the bird is knocked from the sky by a cannon ball. It was being chased by a pirate ship! It drops the girl over the forest. Now it’s time to test your hero chops :). Head over to Orca’s house (2 story house which happens to be your neighbor). Go inside and talk with Orca. He is going to show you step by step instructions for sword techniques. Horizontal thrust, vertical slice, thrust, spin attack, parry attack, and jump attack. After you’ve completed these moves he lets you keep the sword. |
Before you go to the forest, look around the island for 3 piglets. There will be one by Orca’s house, it is pink with with black spots. get close to it and press the green A button to pick it up. This is really tricky because these pigs move around a lot, oi! Once you’ve picked it up take to the pig pen at the house behind Orca’s. You’ll see a woman in the pen and you can jump over the short fence while still carrying the pig. Drop the pig here and talk to her. She will give you money for the piglet. There’s another piglet on the shore of the western part of the island. Follow it around in a southernly direction an you’ll see a black pig on the sand. The third pig is on the eastern part of the island behind/side of the lone house there. These pigs will be important later, I promise! Take them all to the lady and she will give you money for them.
Now head to the forest up the steep road on the eastern part of the island. Chop down the trees, and sign if you like ;), head up to the suspension bridge and cross that bridge (don’t worry about the missing planks, just jump over them). Once in the forest, make your way forward over a small retaining wall and confront the baddie. Use your sword techniques to dispatch this guy. Note, you only have 3 hearts to start with so be careful. Also note, there is a large boulder in the corner jutting out of the ground. This is a fairy fountain, but you’ll need bombs to get to it. Come back later :). Climb on the fallen log to get into the center. Birds will drop 2 more goblins and you can take of them the same way you did the first. After you’ve defeated the enemies Tetra will wake up and a cut scene will ensue. In short, Tetra is the leader of a band of unlikely pirates (I find her snarky comments really amusing) and your sister Aryll is kidnapped because the bird mistook her for Tetra and you, of course, want to get your sister back safe and sound.
Talk with Tetra and the Rito and they will tell you to find a shield before taking off for Forsaken Fortress. To get your shield, head back to your house and talk with your grandmother (you’ll notice that the decorative shield that was hanging on the wall has disappeared). She will present you with the shield. Head back outside to talk with Tetra and her band of scallywags and they will reluctantly take you with them to rescue your sister from the Forsaken Fortress! Time to head off on a new adventure! My next post will be about the boat ride over. |

Pirate Ship
This part opens up with a cut scene and you get to see more of Tetra’s personality. The quick witted, snarky and tongue-in-check type :) who has been hardened by a rough life on the seas but inside is still a kind person. What could she is hiding behind that tough veneer? She tells you to go see Niko in the lower recesses of the ship. I always encourage exploration where you can so check the place out if you like. You won’t get many times when you’re free to roam the pirate ship. Once you go down stairs you see Niko who has a challenge for you. This is an important skill to learn for this game, particularly the Forsaken Fortress parts. You have to learn these skill sets before the game lets you move on. You jump from platform to platform and to make the long jumps you use hanging lantern to tarzan swing your way across. This can take practice. It helps to align yourself with the lanterns and run (the game will jump for you when you’re at the edge of the platform). You can enlarge/start your swing by rocking the grey joystick back and forth or you can stop your swing by pressing the R target button and then rotate using the grey joystick. This is a timed challenge and eventually the platforms will fall so just take the ladder back up, step on the button and try again. Niko, impressed, will give you a treasure; the Spoils bag. This will be a very useful tool in the future. If you’re neurotic like me and you have to have the perfect file this is in dispensable. You’ll see later... Tetra calls you back up. Go outside, it’s dark now, climb the ladder to the crows nest to talk with Tetra. She says there’s only 1 way to get in and gives you a wink. The next thing you know you’re in a barrel on the catapult. You’re launched at the Forsaken Fortress and you begin your first dungeon. |
Forsaken Fortress
The first thing you should take note is loosing your sword in the process, but you gained a gossip stone which Tetra slipped in your pocket. She will tell you hints/advice. Go up the stairs there and you’ll see some barrels. Pick one up and you will conveniently be hidden. Remember, you are a fly on the wall ;), when the search lights come over you stop and wait for them to pass. Take a hard right up new sets of stairs being careful. Once you’re at the top you’re safe. remove the barrel and head for a ladder just up the way and to the right. Tetra will give you some advice. Once at the top of the ladder you’ll find a vase filled with sticks. Pick up the vase and throw it on the Bokoblin controlling the search light. He’ll take a hit and come after you. Easily outrun him and carefully get a stick from what fell on the ground. The red B button is your swing, it’s worth a practice before the attack because it handles differently than a sword... and you only have 3 hearts. Engage the enemy and beat him over the head, you can only get 1 swing in at a time. You don’t have fast reflexes like you do with a sword so be careful. He takes several hits, and you might too. Once he’s gone the searchlight remains up. This is going to be a point of reference because this search light is centrally located. |
The next searchlight can be located by jumping down at the ladder of the first searchlight. Head to the covered walkway and there should be a door at each end. Turn right and head to that door. Across the room is a chest which has the compass. You can get there by the swinging lantern. Otherwise go through the door on the right. You should be in another covered walkway turn left out of the walkway and you should see another ladder. Climb up this ladder and take out the next searchlight.
The last searchlight: From our starting point at the first searchlight, jump down at the ladder and head to the covered walkway. INSTEAD of turing right go left and head to that doorway. Inside this room there is a chest with the dungeon map. Jump across that room using the handy dandy lantern just like you did on the ship. Note, this is a large jump you have to make and I usually try several times. If you fall down, just take the ladder to the right of the room run climb up the bookcase and run along the top of the book case and jump, grabbing the ledge of the upstairs flooring. Note! You will be mobbed by Miniblin. Not fun. Be careful. If you fall down, make haste. Otherwise you might get killed. Head through the door on this side of the room and you’ll come out into another covered walkway. Walk down and in the middle is another opening in the wall. Turn to the left opening and go up the incline to the top landing where you’ll see another ladder. At the top of the ladder is the last searchlight. Take out that searchlight and now you’re ready for phase 2 of this dungeon.
Note If you get caught and thrown in prison, climb onto the table and take a running leap to the waiting book case. You’ll find a vase. Pick it up and break it on the wall. Crawl into the hole in the wall and follow it around and it’ll drop you outside of the prison. Leave there and you’ll recognize that you’re at the chest where you got your compass. If you cross over the room using the lantern and you go out the door on the right you’ll be in a covered walkway. Go straight and turn left at the first breezeway opening. You’ll notice that you’re over the initial courtyard where the searchlights were originally illuminating.
HEART PIECE#1 From the prison, jump down to the first floor and behind the barrels in the upper right corner of the room (by the cage bars) there is a switch on the ground. Step on the switch to open the door. Behind the table in here is a large spikey chest. Open it for your heart piece! From the heart piece, get caught and be thrown in prison. Escape the prison again, cross the room above where the heart piece was by way of lantern. Go out right door and continue across covered walkway to next room. Cross over room by lantern here too and go through the door opposite where you came in. Continue across the next covered walkway and cross over that room by lantern and go through the door opposite where you came in. This covered walkway should have a rather large breezeway in the middle. Turn into the left of the breezeway and there should be a wooden box that you can push over the edge. This will make a shortcut for you later. Push it over and then, jump down, and align it under the ladder. Climb back up so you can make your way to the boss.
In the next room, which is semi-circular and crawling with Moblins. Use the handy barrel by the entrance and sneak your way around to the stairs that lead up to the large double doors. Take the barrel off and push through the doors. Take the stairs up and up and at the top is another barrel which you’ll use to conceal yourself from the next Moblin patrolling the top. Follow the wall to the left and go up the incline that curves to the right. You’ll come to a portion where the ground has given way, walk up to the wall next to the casm and the word Sidle will appear over the icon of your green A button. Press the A button at this time and you will instantly hug the wall with your back so you can cross on the tiny ledge that remains. Keep following the path and you will come across the next casm. Same thing here. Use the Sidle to cross and then follow the path up to the boss room.
At the top you find a goblin and your sword. Cross over the threshold and spikes will appear blocking the exit, pick up your sword and defeat the goblin. Time to fight the bird!! I think o.0 So you find your sister and other missing girls but you are grabbed by the bird and flown to the top of Forsaken Fortress where a shadowy figure give the bird the que to throw you far far away. Now you’re in the ocean floating upside up and a curious red boat pulls up to you. You wake up in a shallow bay and come to find out the boat that rescued is a talking boat with the head of a dragon. He is called the King of Red Lions and he’s your new best friend. You’re finished with Forsaken Fortress for now… :) on to your next quest… Finding a sail for the King of Red Lions in Windfall Island.

Windfall Island
I am going to highlight the different mini quests and riddles as Zelda is so famous for having. The only thing you really need here is the sail, the rest of this is side stuff that can be skipped. But, as I’ve said before, I am neurotic and I must have a perfect file... Mua HaHaHaaaa!!! Ahem... Tingle He is in the jail, located on the back of the island where the guy is who looks like a strange Elvis dancing. You’ll see the door on the curved brick structure. Inside engage Tingle, who thinks you’re a fairy, and asks you to free him. To do so, go to the back left part of the room where there are vases and there is button on the floor to step on. The button triggers the door to open and Tingle comes out, gives you a Tingle Tuner, a Map, and his undying loyalty; that is, he will interpret un-legible maps for you. Note** You will need Tingle to interpret the Triforce Shard maps so, to beat the game you have to do this sometime. Why not now :) Picto Box In the actual prison, there is a wooden box, push it away to reveal a hole in the wall that you can crawl into. To get through the underground maze here is a quick turn by turn directions: Left, right, left, right, straight, straight, straight, right, straight, straight, straight, right. You know you’re close to the Picto box when you start running into blue rupees. There is a cavern with a chest in the middle. Open it to get the Picto Box. To get out quickly, just start crawling back where you came from and find the nearest rat (you know it’s a rat by the wooden planks) and he’ll pull a string that drops you back by the King of Red Lions. |
Lenzo The local photographer, Lenzo is at the upper portion of the Island. You know it’s his place because there is a wall structure that looks like a Picto Box adorning the frame to the entrance of his studio. Go inside, he’s wearing a bright yellow outfit. Talk to him and then brush past him go up the stairs and he will follow. Look at his picto graphs and then leave the building. Turn around and go back in. He will ask you if you want to be his apprentice and you say yes. He will give you 3 challenges. Note** Lenzo is picky, so this may take you several tries. Once you have the photo take it back to him and he will give you the next task. They are:
1. Mailing Love Letter: Man, in red jumpsuit circling the island is the culprit. The mail box is in the front, by the pier. Wait in hiding with your picto box out. 2. Cowardly Man: In the cafe above the shop keeper in the blue parka. He is the balding man at the table. Dash into something or break a glass and he will cower. Quickly take a photo of him cowering. 3. Love Birds: The woman in orange standing by the wooden stairs in the upper part of the island and the man circling the island in the green jacket over blue striped shirt with a brown hat and brown hair. He passes her briefly in his round and they look at each other. I like to take the photo from the top of a canopy otherwise the Killer Bees can get in the way. |
Killer Bees Go talk to the teacher on the island. Her class room is close to Lenzo’s studio. She’ll tell you about the Killer Bees and ask you to talk to them. Go outside and talk to their leader and he will give you a challenge, to beat them at Hide and Seek. Once you find them you have to chase them down and bump into them to stop them.
1. At the top of the big tree by the pier, dash into the tree to knock him out. 2. Behind the Bomb House on the lonely side of the island. You’ll have to sidle to get out to the back. 3. Behind the grave stone that strange Elvis dances in front of. 4. Go up the wooden incline from the grave area and onto the small ledge that wraps around the front of the town area. Follow that around and he is hiding on the ledge. Impressed, they pledge to change themselves and they give you a HEART PIECE#7. Go back to the teacher and she will reward you with 50 rupees. :D |
Battleship Game** Across from Lenzo’s studio is an auspicious building with stone steps leading up to it. This is how you get to the windmill and also the Battleship game is right inside the door. Go talk to Salvatore behind the counter. Beat the game, which is strategic bombing for different sized battleships with a set number of bombs, and you’ll receive a HEART PIECE#6. If you use less then 15 bombs you also get a Treasure Map#23!
Sail** Go to the shopkeeper, who is wearing the blue parka and purchase his one and only merchandise... the sail! For 80 rupees, oi! Make sure you have that money. Of course, it helps to do the Killer Bees because afterwards, the teacher gives you 50 rupees for bringing them under control. ——————————————————————————————————-- What's Next: 2. Quests for Pearls Your first Master Quest is to collect 3 Pearls: Din's Pearl, Farore's Pearl and Nayru's Pearl. To do that you will defeat 2 dungeons and help the Water Spirit, Jabun. |
